I Will Not Fear

Psalm 56:3-4
What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee. In God I will praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me.

What Time I am Afraid

This verse deals with the fear that sometimes comes into our lives. David, the writer of this Psalm, is talking about the fear that he was facing at the time, referring to the time when the Philistines took him in Gath, a harrowing experience for him. He says in the Psalm that when he is afraid, he will trust in the LORD.

Boast in God’s Promises

He says that in God he will praise His word, and in God he has put his trust. The word “praise” here means to boast or to shine, while the word “trust” speaks of placing confidence is someone. We could put it this way, In God I will boast in His sayings, I have put my confidence in Him.

He goes on to say that he will not fear what man can do to him. David had a few close calls while in the company of those who desired to do harm him, yet came out untouched.

Trust in the LORD

The key to overcoming fear, and especially the fear of man, is in our boasting in God’s promises, our boldly declaring them to be true in our life, and in releasing our trust, our full confidence, in Him. Fear will vanish as we declare the promises of God over ourselves.
