Doers of the Word

James 1:22
But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

The Deception of Hearing Only

The Bible tells us to be doers of the word, lest we deceive our own selves. What is the deception in being a hearer only? The deception is that we think that we are doers of the word, simply because we have heard it.

Hearing and Doing

Hearing and doing are not the same thing. Many Christians know that the Bible teaches that we are to forgive those who trespass against us, yet they refuse to do so when the opportunity arises. They hear the word, they agree with what it says, but they do not do the word. They are deceived, according to this verse in James 1:22.

Boldly Confess the Word

One of the most powerful ways to do the word is to boldly declare it as true. The Bible says that God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory. We agree that it says that. But it becomes very real to us personally when we declare with our own mouth that “My God shall supply all of my needs. The Bible says it, I believe it, and that settles it.”

When we boldly declare the word to be true, then we begin to believe that it really is true. When that happens, we begin to act on it, as if it’s true. Our faith now has corresponding action. We are now doers of the word, and not hearers only.

Become a Doer

Declare the word of God to be true in your life today. Hear it, believe it, declare it to be true, and let associated action begin to happen. Be a doer of the word.
