Filled With Joy and Peace

Romans 15:13
Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.

The God of Hope

This Scripture verse refers to the LORD as the God of hope. The Biblical definition of the word “hope” is different than the modern usage of the word. It means confident expectation. In modern usage, someone may say “I hope that things will work out okay.” But the expression implies that things could go either way, good or bad. The Biblical meaning of the word, on the other hand, is full and confident expectation of good.

This is the kind of hope that believers develop in their trust of God and their trust in His promises. God’s promises are not "if, and, or but." The Bible says that His promises are yes and amen, not "maybe."

2 Corinthians 1:20 For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.

Joy and Peace in Believing

The God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing. It is through believing that we access the hope of His promises, the confident expectation that they will come to pass in our lives. That hope does not come by wishing, or by pleading, but by believing. Our doubts must be replaced by faith in His word.

Abound in Hope

There are varying levels of hope, or confident expectation, that we can have in our lives. One level is to abound, or to overflow with hope and trust in Him. And this verse tells us that the power of the Holy Spirit will help up to be full of the hope and expectation for His promises.

Take time to pursue God’s word today. Find His promises for your particular need, and ponder them, meditate in them, and let your heart be filled with faith in them. As the Holy Spirit reveals the truth of God’s word to us, a confident hope and trust in His faithfulness will arise in us.
