I Will Take Away Sickness

Exodus 23:25
And ye shall serve the LORD your God, and he shall bless thy bread, and thy water; and I will take sickness away from the midst of thee.

The Law of Moses

The words of this verse were spoken to Moses during the time when the LORD descended upon Mount Sinai, and spoke to Moses what became known as the law of Moses. It was a list of instructions about how Israel was to relate with one another and with God. During this time, seventy of the elders of Israel were allowed to come up into the mountain and see the God of Israel, and to eat with Him.

In this verse, the LORD commands that the people shall serve Him, and that He, as a result, would bless their food and water, or, that is, give them an abundance of it, and that He would take sickness away from the midst of them.

The LORD Who Heals

Physical healing has always been a promise of God to His people. In the letter of James, in the New Testament, James asks the Church if there are any sick among you? The implication is that there should not be. But, he goes on to say, if there are sick among you, then let the elders pray the prayer of faith, and the LORD will raise them up.

Fulfilled in Christ

The law of Moses, the words spoken by God Himself to Moses, was a prophetic book. That’s what prophesy is, God speaking to man. And Jesus made the statement that the law would not pass away, until all be fulfilled. So, every line of the law was prophesy that was later fulfilled in Christ. When was Exodus 23:25 fulfilled? When did it come to pass? It was fulfilled when Christ went to Calvary. It was at Calvary that Jesus carried away our sins and our sicknesses. It says In Isaiah 53, speaking prophetically of Christ’s scourging and crucifixion, that by His stripes we are healed. Matthew speaks of this in chapter 8 of his gospel.

Matthew 8:17 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses.

Christ Took Away Sin and Sickness

Christ not only took away our sins, but He also took away our sicknesses and diseases, fulfilling Exodus 23:25, “and I will take sickness away from the midst of thee.”

Take it by Faith

How does that become a reality in our lives? It becomes reality by believing the word of God, and laying claim to it. If He delivered us from our sins two thousand years ago, in another place and another time, and we take advantage of that by faith, then the same is true for physical healing. We set our hearts toward Calvary, and lay hold of His heavenly promise.

Look toward Calvary today, toward the finished work of Christ, and let faith arise in your heart that He has taken away your sicknesses as well as your sins. By faith lay hold of the promise of physical healing for your body.
