Make a Joyful Noise

Psalm 95:1 O come, let us sing unto the LORD: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation.
Psalm 95:2 Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms.
Psalm 95:3 For the LORD is a great God, and a great King above all gods.

Come Before Him with Singing

This passage reiterates the notion we came across in Psalm 100, that we should come before the LORD’s presence with singing.

A Shout of Victory

This Psalm says to make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation. The phrase “joyful noise” is a translation of the Hebrew word “Ruwa”, which means to shout or to raise a sound of triumph. A shout of victory is a powerful thing. We do it when our favorite team scores. Why would it be difficult to give that kind of shout to the One Who has given us victory over death, and delivered us from hell and the grave?

The Hebrew word “Yesha” is translated here as “salvation.” And it means deliverance, safety, welfare, and prosperity. In other words, let us make a triumphant shout to the rock of our deliverance, our welfare, and our prosperity.

A Great King

Verse 2 says for us to come before his presence with thanksgiving, and let us make a triumphant sound with songs. Music and singing are part of our giving of thanks. And it says to give Him thanks because the LORD is a great God, and a great king over all the earth. When we praise Him and thanks Him and worship Him we are honoring His majesty, One Who is very high in rank and position, One Who is worthy of honor and praise. We enter the courts of the King.

Let us have a thankful heart today. The more we cultivate a heart of thanksgiving and praise, the more a shout of victory will arise within us, and the easier it will be for us to make a joyful noise to the God of our salvation.
