Growing in His Knowledge

2 Peter 1:2 Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,
2 Peter 1:3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:

The Grace of God

Grace and peace be multiplied unto you. We often think of God’s grace as His unmerited favor, or His favor toward us that we did not earn or deserve. And that’s true. It is that. But it is also His divine enabling to do things we could not otherwise do, or to receive things we would not otherwise have access to.

Grace Through His Knowledge

In this case, in this verse, it says grace be unto you through the knowledge of God and Jesus Christ. So, Peter is talking about a grace that comes to us by way of our knowledge of God, or our knowledge of Jesus. He is not talking about knowing things about God and Jesus. He is talking about the revealing of divine knowledge available to believers who have the Spirit of God.

The Spirit of Truth

The Spirit of God, Whom Jesus referred to as the Spirit of Truth, was given to us for the purpose of guiding us into all truth, or true reality. He reveals to us the ways of God and His kingdom, which knowledge the world cannot receive. So, he is talking about divine knowledge, or what Paul the Apostle spoke of as the hidden wisdom that is hidden from the world.

His Divine Power

It is through that knowledge that His divine power has given unto us all things that pertain to life and godliness. Through the knowledge of God we receive the things we need for life, and we receive the knowledge of how to develop godly characteristics in our life and heart attitudes, or godliness and Christlikeness.

His High Calling

He repeats it again by saying that all this is through the knowledge of Him Who has called us to glory, or the excellency of Christ, and virtue, or moral excellence. We have been called to a high place, and it’s through the knowledge of God.

How Do We Get This Knowledge?

The knowledge of God is obtained through meditation in the word of God. The Bible says that the Spirit of God searches all the things of God. When does He do that? He does it as we are searching and pondering the things of God that are in His word. He searches the things of God and reveals them to us. Jesus said the Spirit of truth would take the things of Jesus and show them unto us.

Start the pursuit of truth today by taking time to ponder the word of God, to reflect on the things of the Scriptures, and allow the Spirit of God to reveal the hidden truth of God’s word. By doing so, we will begin to grow in the knowledge of God, and grow up into the things of His kingdom.
