A Good Man Shows Favor

Psalm 112:5 A good man sheweth favour, and lendeth: he will guide his affairs with discretion.
Psalm 112:6 Surely he shall not be moved for ever: the righteous shall be in everlasting remembrance.

The Blessed Man

These verses give us further light and insight into the life of the blessed man who fears the LORD, and who delights greatly in God’s commandments (Psalm 112:1.)

A Good Man Gives

It says that a good and excellent man displays mercy and compassion, pitying those in need, and lends to help them. The word “lendeth” in this passage carries the idea of lending and borrowing. However, showing mercy and compassion often means giving to those who have no means to repay. Jesus taught that we should “. . . do good, and lend, [or give] hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great.” So, this man is one who pities, or shows compassion, toward the poor, with no expectation of repayment. But the Bible tells us that the LORD repays when we pity the poor.

The Boundaries of His Affairs

He will guide his affairs with discretion, or he will keep and contain his words and his actions within the boundaries of that which is just and right. He does not go outside the boundaries of what is pleasing to the LORD. He is a doer of the word, for he delights is God’s commandments, His word.

He Shall Not Be Overwhelmed

Verse 6 tells us that this man shall not be removed, cast down, or overthrown forever. His enemies cannot get the advantage over Him, because God is with him, protecting him and keeping him. It further says that he is in everlasting remembrance, or, you might say, he is never far from God’s remembrance, from the LORD’s thoughts of good toward him. When he calls upon the LORD, he is heard.

Start today to develop an attitude of compassion for those who are poor and needy, regardless of the reason they are in that state. God is not judging them. He desires to keep them alive until He can help them out of the darkness. And He uses willing and obedient men and women to accomplish that. Become the person God can use to bring His love to others. And great shall be your reward.
