Praise Him for His Deliverance

Psalm 9:1 I will praise thee, O LORD, with my whole heart; I will shew forth all thy marvellous works.
Psalm 9:2 I will be glad and rejoice in thee: I will sing praise to thy name, O thou most High.
Psalm 9:3 When mine enemies are turned back, they shall fall and perish at thy presence.

His Marvelous Works

Here is another Psalm of David the King, a song of praise to the LORD for His mighty delivering power. David was a man acquainted with enemies, both before he reigned as king, when he was viciously pursued by King Saul, and after he became king, when there were those who rose up against him in unsuccessful attempts to usurp his throne.

The Psalm starts with the words “I will praise thee, O LORD, with my whole heart; I will shew forth all thy marvellous works.” One way of praising the LORD is to show forth or, that is, to recount or to declare or to enumerate, His marvelous works, or, that is to say, those things that are beyond the power of the individual to do on his own. Has the LORD ever done anything for you that you couldn’t have done without Him? Declare those things. Tell them to others. There is great faith-building power in our personal testimony of God’s marvelous and wondrous works in our lives.

I Will Sing Praise

David goes on to say that he will rejoice, or be joyful in the LORD, and sing praise to his name. Here again the virtue of praising God with song is emphasized and extolled. The Bible says, in another Psalm, to come before His presence with singing.

His Mighty Presence Delivers

David makes mention of God’s presence in verse 3. He says that his enemies, when they are turned back, shall fall at the presence of the LORD. Praising Him is the key to His presence in our lives. And His presence is powerful to deliver and save us.

Psalm 97:5 The hills melted like wax at the presence of the LORD, at the presence of the Lord of the whole earth.

Take note today of the good things the LORD is doing and has done in your life. Thank Him for them as often as possible. Share them with others as a means of encouragement to those who are looking for the LORD to come through for them. May His praises continually be in our mouths, and His presence strong in our lives.
