Behold, I Give You Power

Luke 10:19 Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

Miraculous Power

There is a supernatural power that is available to every believer in Christ. It is miraculous power, or, that is, power that works miracles, and it operates by faith. Take away faith in this power, and it will not work.

He Marveled at Their Unbelief

Jesus operated proficiently in this miraculous power, as He ministered to sick and tormented people in His earthly ministry. Yet, in His own hometown of Nazareth, the Bible says that He could there do no mighty works, or miraculous healings, and it says that He marveled at their unbelief. Their unbelief stopped the flow of mighty power. It did not say He would not, but that He COULD NOT do any mighty works there, because of their unbelief. If He came doing miracles today, would He marvel also at our present unbelief?

An Assault on Faith for Miracles

There has been an assault on the belief in supernatural power for centuries, until many today have been indoctrinated to believe that such things happened only in the early church, but ceased after the death of the original twelve Apostles. Again, the power of God works among His people by faith, by believing, and is stopped by unbelief.

The Greatness of His Power

The Apostle Paul prayed for the Ephesian Church that they would know and understand this power that works in and through God’s people.

Ephesians 1:19 And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,
Ephesians 1:20 Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places . . .

Resurrection Power

This power that Paul is referring to is the same power that raised Christ from the dead. Paul is praying that the believers at Ephesus would know and understand the greatness of the power that was working among them, the very power that raised up Christ. In fact, the Bible says that it is the same power that raised us up from spiritual death. The new birth is a working of that mighty power.

The Power of Prayer

This power is the same power that comes into play when we pray to God, and He answers us. It is a power that works in us.

Ephesians 3:20 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us . . .

God is able to do mighty things among us, greater than all that we can ask or think, based on the power that works in us, the power that works in each of us.

Authority

The word “power” in Luke 10:19 comes from a Greek word that means authority. The power of God works among the people of God because Jesus has given us authority over all the power, or strength, of the enemy. But it is up to us to exercise that authority.

The area of that authority has to do with the confrontation of sickness, disease, and the demonic powers of the darkness of this world. And it was clearly outlined by Jesus, the One Who gave the authority.

Mark 16:17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
Mark 16:18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

The Authority of Jesus’ Name

The exercising of this authority is in the name of Jesus, or in the authority of Jesus. In My name, or My authority, shall they cast out devils. In My name, or My authority, shall they lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. This authority is given to all those who believe on Him.

Expand your faith today to believe in the supernatural power of God, a power that works in and among the people of God, or, more specifically, among those who believe. Jesus said that these signs would follow them that believe, not those who have been robbed of faith in the supernatural. Determine to be one who believes, and search the word of God for more knowledge about His power in your life.
