A Good Man

Luke 6:45
A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.

The Power of Words

This verse is a testimonial to the power of the tongue, which is a much-emphasized subject in the Bible. The Bible says that death and life are in the power of the tongue, and that those who love to talk will eat its fruit.

Good and Evil

This verse in Luke, chapter 6, comes from the words of Jesus, as He teaches. He compares a good man and an evil man. He says that a good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings to pass good things, and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings to pass evil things.

The Mouth Speaks

And how is it that these good and evil things come to pass? By way of the words of the mouth. What is in their heart, whether good or evil, comes out of the mouth at some point, in the form of words. Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. Whatever is in the heart in abundance will overflow out of the words of the mouth.

Good Man or Evil

It is interesting to take note of what distinguishes a good man from an evil man, according to Jesus. It is based upon what the man has treasured up in his heart. A person who stores up the things of God and of His kingdom and of His word has a good treasure in his heart. And the one who stores up worldliness and conforms himself to this present evil age has an evil treasure.

Fill the Heart with Good

It stands to reason, based on that premise, that one can change his standing as good or evil by merely changing what is in his heart in abundance, which will result in changing for good or evil those things that are produced in his life.

Take control of your words today. Fill your heart with those things that are good and godly and pure. Think on these things. Shun and walk away from those things that are worldly and ungodly. Treasure up good things in your heart, and good things will begin to happen in your life.
