Changed by His Word

Psalm 19:7 The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.

God’s Message to Us

There is much spoken in the Bible about the power and benefit of the word of God received into the human heart. God’s words, the Scriptures we have in the Bible, are His message to us, and the basis for our fellowship with Him. Without His word, we would know little if anything about Him.

The Word is Wholesome

This Psalm of David, in verse 7, tells us that the law of the LORD, His word, is perfect, or wholesome, healthy, and complete, upright and full of integrity, and that it converts the soul. To convert the soul is to return or turn again the soul to its right condition before God.

Be Transformed

Paul the Apostle tells us in the book of Romans to be transformed by the renewing of the mind. James, in his letter to the Church, exhorts us to receive the ingrafted word with meekness, which is able to save our souls. Both statements refer to the converting or saving or renewing or restoring of the soul to proper relationship with the LORD. This is what the word of God, sown in the human heart, will accomplish.

Making Wise the simple

The Psalm goes on to say that the testimony of the LORD, His word, is sure, or reliable, faithful and firm, and that is makes wise the simple, or, that is, it makes wise the naïve and foolish ones. Wisdom is in the word of God, and receiving it makes one wise, even the simple ones.

Psalm 119:99 I have more insight than all my teachers, for I meditate on your statutes.

There is a heavenly wisdom that comes to those who pursue the truth of God’s word through meditation, or through pondering it. Jesus said that if we would continue in His words that we would know the truth, and the truth would make us free. To continue in His word is to pursue it over time.

Take time to read the word of God today, and not only read it, but also spend time contemplating it, pondering it, and thinking deeply into it. Let your heart, your inward man, feed upon the one thing that will nourish him, the word of the Living God. And a divine transformation will take place within you, as the wisdom of God begins to be increased in your life.
