There is a River

Psalm 46:4 There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the most High.
Psalm 46:5 God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her, and that right early.

Glad in the LORD

There is a river, a flowing stream, a flood of waters, whose channels or branches shall cause the city of God to rejoice, to be merry and joyful. the set apart place of the habitations of the Highest One.

The City of God

Those who have received the redemption that God has made available in Christ are the ones who have their dwelling in the city of God. The Bible says that God’s house is made up of living stones, or people, who are built together as a holy habitation for the LORD. That’s the city of God, the people of God.

God’s Family

Verse 5 says that God is in the middle of that city, or in the midst among them. It has always been God’s intention to dwell among men, to have a family, and to bless those who are part of that family. Jesus said that if you, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give good things to His children.

The Joy of the LORD

Spiritually speaking, there is a river of joy that flows through the city of God, a joy and a gladness that the people of God have access to. It’s called the joy of the LORD, and the Bible says that the joy of the LORD is our strength.

God Shall Help Her

It says in verse 5 that God shall help her, His city, His people. That is, He shall help, relieve, and support His children in their needs. And it says that He will do it “right early”, or, that is to say, at the break of day, early in the morning, or at the coming of sunrise. Another rendering is that He shall bring the night to an end with bright joy.

Be encouraged in whatever struggle you may be dealing with today. God is faithful to help us. The Bible says that we can boldly say that the LORD is our helper, and that we will not be afraid. Refuse to doubt the LORD. Refuse to be afraid. Make a determined decision to be thankful and to rejoice in His goodness. Have the attitude of Psalm 118:24, and trust in Him.

Psalm 118:24 This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.
