Cleanse Me from My Sin

Psalm 51:1 Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.
Psalm 51:2 Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.
Psalm 51:3 For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me.

If Any Man Sin . . .

Even with our best efforts to live righteously and do everything right in our walk with God, we still come up short. This is not to make excuses for sinning or for falling short, but we all miss the mark sometimes.

In this Psalm, David is praying to God for forgiveness for his sins, which were not small. He had ordered his commander to allow a man to be killed in battle, to cover up the sin of adultery that David had committed with the man’s wife.

Your Sin Will Find You Out

David must have thought he had covered his tracks well, and that his secret was safe, until the Prophet Nathan revealed by the word of the LORD that the secret was known. David had lived with unconfessed sin in his life, but it was not hidden from the LORD, as he may have foolishly thought.

Run to God

Perhaps he should have just acknowledged his sins immediately to the LORD, and committed himself to the LORD’s mercy. But sometimes it’s just complicated. It was in David’s case, and he just kept getting deeper and deeper in unrepentant sin, which causes the one who insists on carrying it to move further and further from God.

We should not run from God when we sin. We should run to Him. He wanted to forgive David, and get him back on the right track, but David was trying to hide it from God, Who sees and knows all things.

If We Confess Our Sins

In Psalm 51, David asks the LORD to have mercy on him, and to blot out his transgressions. He goes on to ask God to wash and cleanse him. He acknowledges his sins, and he says that his reason for asking is because his sin is ever before him. He just couldn't escape it anymore.

It’s the same for us as well. The Bible says that if we confess our sins, that God in His mercy is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Get free from any unconfessed sin you may be carrying today. Call upon the LORD to have mercy and to forgive. Like David did, acknowledge your transgressions, confess your sins, and ask Him to forgive them, and to cleanse you from all unrighteousness. And the Bible says that if we will do our part, that He will do His..
