In Him was Life

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
John 1:2 The same was in the beginning with God.
John 1:3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
John 1:4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

In the Beginning

God created all things by His Word. When the Bible speaks about the beginning, it I referring to the beginning of the created world. After all, the world that God Himself lives in has no beginning nor has it an ending. It has always existed, and it always will.

No Beginning

This passage says that the Word of God was with God in the beginning, and indeed was God Himself. Then, if the Word of God was God Himself, we can conclude that the Word has no beginning, but was with God always, or as the Bible says, from everlasting to everlasting. The Word of God is Himself eternal.

All Things Made by Him

It goes on to say that all created things were made by Him, the Word, Who exists forever, and, outside of Him, there was nothing made. So then, anything that is part of this created world has its beginning in the Word of God, and therefore subject to the Word of God.

The Place Where God Dwells

It is often said that God created all things from nothing. But that presupposes that the place where God Himself exists did not exist before the created universe. And that could not be further from the truth. God’s dwelling place, His kingdom, heaven itself, has always existed. It is more real than the natural world we live in. It doesn’t change, while the natural world is ever changing, and will ultimately pass away.

The Light that Enlightens Hearts

This passage continues by saying that in Him, the Word, was life, and that the life was the light of men. We could say it this way. In Him, the Word, was life, and the life was the light that enlightens men’s hearts.

Jesus, the Word

Later in John Chapter 1, it says that this Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, and that we beheld His glory, the glory of the only begotten Son of God, full of grace and truth. We know from this that the title “Word of God” is a reference to Jesus, the Son of God, Who came from heaven.

Jesus is the Living Word, the One Who made all things, the One Who became flesh and dwelt among us. The Bible says that the first Adam was a living soul, but that the Last Adam, Jesus Christ, was made a life-giving Spirit.

The Word within the Word

The Living Word is the word within the written word. The Living Word is the word that the Holy Spirit reveals to us as we search and ponder the written word. The Bible says that the letter of the word kills, but the spirit of the word gives life. So, there is a letter of the word, the written word, and there is a spirit of the word, the truth revealed by the Spirit of God to us.

There is a word inside of the written word that we can find by the guidance of the Holy Spirit. The Bible says that the Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. When does He search them? He searches them while we are searching them, and He guides us into the truth contained in the written word. He, the Spirit, takes the things of Jesus, and reveals them to us.

Begin your search of the word of God today. Dig for the hidden treasures of truth that can only be found by meditating in and pondering the word of God. Ask for the leading of the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Truth, that He would guide you into all the truth. Jesus said that as we continue in His words, that we would u;timately know the truth, and that the truth would make us free.
